About this drawing...
The Ferrari 308's first appeared in the early 70's, with the 308 GT4 styled by Bertone. However, after 1975 the Pininfarina styled 308's appeared in two formats, the GTB and the GTS. The 'B' stands for 'berlinetta' and the 'S' for 'spyder', the main difference between the two being the removable Targa top, spyder is the traditional Italian name for an open car. The GTB and GTS are strictly two seaters, unlike the old GT4 which had two rear jump seats.
All 308's built from 1975 to 1979 used four Weber carburettors, but in 1980 Ferrari had to part from tradition and switched to a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system in order to comply with tightening emission controls. Unfortunately, this meant that the cars suffered a loss in performance and lost that sweet induction noise made during heavy acceleration, but was compensated a little by improved driveability - no protracted warming up proceedures or 'flat spots'. These cars were officially named the 308 GTBi and 308 GTSi.
After receiving complaints that the 308 no longer delivered 'supercar' performance, Ferrari swapped the 2-valve cylinder heads for 4-valve versions in 1983, these models were called the GTBi and GTSi Quattrovalvole, or QV for short. Once again the 308 delivered the performance expected of a Ferrari, and production continued until 1985 when it was replaced by the 328 GTB.
