About this drawing...
Ferrari first introduced the world to the 365 GT4 BB at the Turin Motor Show in 1971, although the car did not actually go on sale until 1974. It was fitted with a V12 4.4 litre engine which developed 360 BHP @ 7,500 RPM.
In 1976 the 512 BB superceded the 365 , and was fitted with a 4.9 litre engine which although only developing 340 BHP produced more torque than the previous engine fitted in the 365. Once again threatened by emissions, in 1981 Ferrari fitted the engine with a fuel injection system, retaining the 340 BHP but once again increasing the output torque of the engine. This model became the 512 BBi which in turn proved to be the most popular of all the 512's, some 1007 were built before production ended in 1984.
The 512 BBi name can be broken down, '5' representing the engine capacity, '12' the number of cylinders. The first 'B' stands for 'Berlinetta' - a closed coupe, and the second 'B' is 'Boxer' - a name given to engines where the cylinders are horizontally opposed to each other by 180 degrees. Even by todays standards, this car still offers the driver an awesome ride.
